Writer's
Guidelines
Article submissions
will appear on the TAA website, in TAA's print member newsletter,
The Academic Author, and in TAA's e-newsletter, "TAA News
Alerts". Articles must be written for the textbook or academic
book author.
We accept
how-to articles (250-400 words); essays on writing (250-500 words);
columns (250-500 words); member profiles (500-1,000 words); author
profiles (500-1,000 words); member news; industry news (25-250
words); and book reviews (250-500 words).
Full articles
will be printed on the TAA website. Edited for length versions
(with a link to the full article on the TAA website) will appear
in The Academic Author and in TAA News Alerts.
How-to
articles. Tips, strategies-type articles about the day-to-day
activities of authoring a textbook or other academic work, e.g.,
how to organize your revision materials; the best writing software
for writing a textbook; tips for getting a journal article published;
how to get started in textbook publishing; finding time to write;
etc.
Writer's
Block. Essays devoted to the experiences and issues of writing
and writers.
Columns.
These take a position on some aspect of textbook and academic
authoring, e.g., used books, complimentary copies, open access,
the current state of royalty statements, the high cost of publishing
in journals, etc.
Member
profiles. Feature members doing something interesting or innovative,
or who have published their first book, been successful in publishing
journal articles, etc.
Notable
Author profiles. Feature authors who have become successful
textbook or academic authors. They profile how the author got
started, how each of his or her key publications came about and
their success, and share advice for other authors.
Busy TAA
People. Shares member news about publishing a book or new
edition; publishing a journal article; receiving an award or promotion;
member websites; etc.
Industry
News. Articles about the textbook and academic authoring industry.
Book Reviews.
Reviews should be of textbook or academic authoring reference
titles.
Submit
articles in a Word attachment to Kim Pawlak at kim.pawlak@taaonline.net
- Essay and column submissions must be accompanied by a .jpg
photo of the author.
- Member profiles and author profiles must be accompanied
by a .jpg photo of the member/author being profiled.
- Include a one sentence bio with each submission.
- Include your name, phone number and email address with your
submission

- Italicize
titles of textbooks, journals
- Put quotes
around article titles
