IFFRO Supports
Guild Suit Against Google
The International
Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFFRO) released a statement
on November 14, 2005 in support of a lawsuit filed by its member organization,
The Authors Guild, and five US publishers against Google, Inc. The statement
reads: "In IFFRO's view, The Google Library Project is a violation of
fundamental international copyright principles and US law. According
to IFFRO, benefits of search engine uses of databases of copyrighted
works, such as the Google databases, can be achieved through licensing
by creators, publishers and/or College Management Organizations which
already license digitization by libraries." TAA is a member organization
of IFFRO. Here is the official statement released by IFFRO:

TAA Seeks Back
Issues of Newsletters
Executive Director
Richard Hull is scanning all back issues of the TAA Report and The Academic
Author to make them available on-line to members in the Newsletter Archive.
He is still trying to locate the following issues: anyone who has them
and is willing to loan them for scanning should contact him at rthull62@hotmail.com.
They will not be harmed by the scanning and will be promptly returned.
He needs: 1987 # 1, #3 and up (if they exist); 1988 #1; 1995 #5; 1997
#3; 2002 #2 and up; 2003 #2 and up; 2005 #1 and 3. With the scanning
of these, the set will be complete and members will be able to access
all the fine articles from TAA's nearly 20 years of newsletters.

than 1,000 copies; Ronald Mark (Jan Jose, CA), an established textbook
author in the field of computer science and software engineering with
Prentice-Hall and Wiley and is also grant writer; Judy Block (Westport,
CT)a textbook author in the field of student success and freshman orientation
with Prentice Hall; and Kris Hardy (Melbourne, FL) a published textbook
author in the medical assistant field with F. A. Davis.

Gray Workshops
Attract 49 New Members
Tara Gray presented
her Publish & Flourish:
Become a Prolific Scholar workshop to 41 faculty and graduate students
at Northern Arizona University on November 4, and to 18 graduate students
at New Mexico Tech on November 10. Forty-nine of these workshop participants
became members of TAA. "Participants seemed most interested in learning
how to write daily in short (15-30 minute) blocks of time, organize
paragraphs around key or topic sentences, use these key or topic sentences
to make an after-the-fact outline, and get help from all different sorts
of readers including non-experts, experts and Capital-E Experts," said
Gray. These workshops are co-sponsored by TAA. Upcoming workshops will
be given in January 2006 at University of Nevada Las Vegas, University
of Buffalo and Brigham Young University. In February, workshops will
be given at University of Illinois at Chicago and University of New
Mexico. In April, workshops will be given at Texas A&M University and
in May, Susquehanna University. Recent workshops were given at Fresno
State University and Harvard University.
