Beware: work-for-hire
projects are owned by employer
A
question sent to TAA President John Wakefield asked whether writing
projects done while employed by a nonprofit organization are the property
of the employer or the author. In his response, Wakefield regretfully
informed the writer that such projects are considered work-for-hire
and are owned by the employer. He suggested that in the future, the
writer protect herself by separating her personal for-profit activities
from her employers by setting up a home office and working on such projects
away from work. Read the entire question and answer here.

Uneasy About
the Big Easy
TAA has decided
to find an alternate location for the 2006 TAA Convention, which was
to be held in New Orleans next July. While the convention hotel, Le
Pavillion, sustained only minor damage during Hurricane Katrina, a hotel
spokesperson said that they couldn't guarantee full service even by
July of next year. That, along with concerns about members' health and
safety while in New Orleans, prompted the TAA Council to find a new
location for next year's convention. The TAA Executive Committee is
considering the recommendations of sites recorded in members' evaluations
of the 2005 convention as possible alternative sites for the 2006 convention.
If you have a recommendation for a site, please contact TAA Executive
Director Richard Hull at rthull62@hotmail.com
