Inventory, Distribution Center to Close
Pearson Education
has announced the closing of its DK Publishing division inventory and
distribution center located in LaVergne, Tennessee. More than 100 employees
will be affected by the closing. A closing date has not been set.

Thomson Custom Publishing
introduced an updated version of TextChoice, a digital database that
enables educators to created customized learning solutions. TextChoice2
was developed in response to the increasing demand for course materials
and educational content tailored to the unique needs of professors,
instructors and their students. With TextChoice2, instructors can select
material from an electronic catalog to create customized textbooks that
integrate Thomson content with the instructor's own original material.

Harcourt to Purchase
Saxon Publishers
Harcourt Achieve,
a unit of Harcourt, a Reed Elsevier Group company, announced June 1
that it will acquire Saxon Publishers, a leading publisher of skills-based
pre-K-12 instructional materials in mathematics, phonics and early childhood.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Wakefield Promoted
to VP for Academic Affairs
TAA member (and
2005 convention co-chair) Dr. John F. Wakefield has been appointed assistant
vice president for academic affairs for the University of Alabama. Wakefield,
a tenured professor of secondary education at the University, will begin
the position July 1.
