2005 TAA Convention
Las Vegas, Nevada
June 24-25

Call for Presentation Proposals

The TAA 2005 Convention will be held at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas, Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25. John Wakefield and Jay Black are the co-chairs of the convention.

Modes of presentation (50 minutes):

Panel discussion, or
Interview or informal debate, or
Any interactive mode of presentation (Q&A, survey, simulation, etc.)

Electronic publishing Ethical issues for authors
Contracts and licenses Website development
Marketing your work Repackaging/product development
Managing your royalties Textbook selection process
Mergers and acquisitions Textbook pricing controversy
Dealing with reviews Academic self publishing
Indexers and ancillary authors Derivative works issues
Publishing company information Bookstore issues
Copyright and the public domain Used textbooks

Details of proposal submissions:

Submit a presentation proposal as a 1-page attachment to an email addressed to: jfwakefield@una.edu. Include the name(s) of presenter(s), affiliation(s), title of presentation, mode of presentation, and presentation summary (no more than 200 words). Due date for receipt of proposals: February 1, 2005.

  • Authoring workshop prior to convention
    Economist/author Tara Gray will conduct her popular workshop, "Publish and Flourish: Write Well and Revise Rapidly" on Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24. Click here to download the PDF flier for more information.
  • Geo-primer as lead presentation
    After a welcome from our president, orient yourself to the greater Las Vegas area through a visual presentation by geographer/author Robert Christopherson.
  • Concurrent sessions for new and experienced authors
    This year, TAA will host concurrent presentations on both Friday and Saturday, but we'll bring everyone together for presentations on topics that are particularly broad and timely.
  • Literary marketplace
    Have an idea for a book? Bring an outline and sample chapter, and we'll help you find a mentor, prepare a proposal, and target a publisher.
  • Awards Banquet Friday night
    Celebrate the enterprise of text and academic authoring with awards for excellence in authoring midway through our convention.
