The Text and Academic Authors Association will hold its annual convention Friday and Saturday, June 20 and June 21 at the Omni Richmond Hotel in historic Richmond, Virginia. Cost for the convention is $160 for all sessions plus the awards banquet.

The convention, this year, open with a keynote address by Richard Leftwich, Professor Emiritus of Economics from Oklahoma State University. He taught there for thirty-seven years, with twenty years as Distinguished Regents Professor. He has published four textbooks including an economics issue book that went into twelve editions. His most famous book on microeconomic theory went into ten editions and was translated into eight languages.

Also on the convention program will be sessions on royalties, self publishing, electronic publishing, and the ethical issues in text and academic publishing. Convention Chair Tara Gray of New Mexico State University continues to work putting the finishing touches on the convention program.

The Omni Richmond Hotel is a contemporary, luxury hotel overlooking the scenic James River. The hotel is located in the heart of the city's financial and historic, cobblestoned Shockoe District with plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment right outside the door. Complementary shuttle service is available to downtown locations within a four mile radius. To book rooms, call the Omni Hotel at 804-344-7000 and be sure to specify the TAA rate.

The greater Richmond area has several attractions and points of interest. Richmond is the capitol of Virginia and the home to Philip Morris, testimony to Virginia's tobacco roots. There are numerous plantation homes and historic houses, including the Edgar Allan Poe house and museum and the John Marshall museum. Richmond also is home to the Museum and White House of the Confederacy and to St. John's Church where Pocahontas was married and Patrick Henry delivered his famous give me liberty or death speech. Within a short distance from Richmond are two important Civil War battlefields. Petersburg Battlefield Park is where a 10 month siege took place in 1864-65 and Cold Harbor was the last frontal assult in history with over 16,000 casualities. Richmond is a day trip away from Colonial Williamsburg and its picturesque setting of colonial life in the Virginia colony.
