The greater
Richmond area has several attractions and points of interest.
Richmond is the capitol of Virginia and the home to Philip Morris,
testimony to Virginia's tobacco roots. There are numerous plantation
homes and historic houses, including the Edgar Allan Poe house
and museum and the John Marshall museum. Richmond also is home
to the Museum and White House of the Confederacy and to St. John's
Church where Pocahontas was married and Patrick Henry delivered
his famous give me liberty or death speech. Within a short distance
from Richmond are two important Civil War battlefields. Petersburg
Battlefield Park is where a 10 month siege took place in 1864-65
and Cold Harbor was the last frontal assult in history with over
16,000 casualities. Richmond is a day trip away from Colonial
Williamsburg and its picturesque setting of colonial life in the
Virginia colony.
