Sessions

Dr. James Delaney

Publish Your Dissertation as a Book
Presenter: Dr. James J. Delaney, Asst. Professor, Chair, Department of Philosophy, Niagara University

Saturday, June 23
10:45 - 11:45 a.m.
Preliminary conference schedule

Academic publishing can be difficult for many reasons. When one attempts to publish a doctoral dissertation as a book, several of these difficulties can be even more challenging. One of the major tasks that an author has is to balance the goal of writing a suitable piece for his or her degree requirements with the production of a work that will be of interest to publishers. With a focus on that challenge, this session will discuss several strategies that newly minted PhDs can use to take their dissertations through the various stages of book proposals and revisions that can help increase chances for publication.

About the Presenter:

Dr. James Delaney joined the philosophy department in 2004. He received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo that same year. Dr. Delaney specializes in ethics, with a focus on the history of philosophy as well as topics in biomedical ethics. He has published articles in the American Catholic Philosophical Association's Annual Proceedings, The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and Inquiry. He has also written a book, Rousseau and the Ethics of Virtue, published by Thoemmes-Continuum Press in 2006. He regularly teaches Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, and Philosophy of Law.
