Roundtables
International Editions: When Your Textbook Goes Global Moderator: At this roundtable, we'll discuss some of the questions that arise when your textbook goes global. What are the basic steps in the translation process? What are the contract and royalty issues? Validation concerns - how do you know the translated version is an accurate representation of your text? How will the production quality change when it's printed in other languages - hard or soft cover, colors, etc.? Will you have a chance to proofread the translated text? Join us. We promise to have many questions and at least a few answers. About the Moderator: Ann McIver McHoes has co-authored a computer systems textbook that has been translated into five languages - and Ann's name is spelled correctly in four of them! A passionate traveler, Ann has a keen interest in the cultural differences that often affect international communications. She is a career technical writer and an adjunct professor of Information Systems at Pittsburgh colleges and universities. For her corporate clients, she has written sales and technical literature for both domestic and international audiences, and her medical device manuals are routinely translated into 16 languages for global distribution. |
